Development in insect production at DTI

FOOD AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Insects have potential as a sustainable food source of the future.

Several projects run at DTI, e.g. the Eurostars-project SUSMEAL, have already optimised insect production from a sustainability point-of-view by using by-products as feed while current projects such as inVALUABLE focus on maturing the insect value chain, from optimal rearing conditions, controlling disease, over automatization and processing to the publics’ benefits and acceptance of eating insects.

Other smaller projects aim at developing specific equipment that will improve the efficiency of the insect rearing system, such as specifically design insect rearing boxes as shown during the exhibit.
