Meet Diederik Samsom

Diederik Samsom is head of cabinet of EVP Frans Timmermans at the European Commission since December 2019. An experienced Dutch environmentalist and politician, Samsom has been a member of the Dutch House of Representatives (2003-16), where he has been particularly vocal on issues related to sustainability, climate and energy, and transport issues, and was leader of the PvdA in  2012-16.  Prior to entering the House of Representatives, Samsom was chief executive officer of Echte Energie, a green energy trading company, and a campaigner for Greenpeace Netherlands. He holds an engineering degree from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.
