Meet Dr. Jari-Jussi Manninen

Jussi Manninen is the current Executive Vice President for VTT Technical Centre of Finland (since 2016). He is responsible for VTT's Business Area of Solutions for Natural Resources and Environment, which comprises of 450 personnel and several pilot plants with an annual budget of 60 M€. Additionally, he is a member of VTT's Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for VTT's Environmental policy.

Prior to this position, from 2014-2016, Mr. Manninen served as the Development Manager for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Employment. He was responsible for the implementation of Finnish Bioeconomy Strategy as a member of inter-ministrial secretariat (until 6/2015), as well as setting up growth programmes together with governmental agencies to boost bioeconomy exports and investments. Additionally, in this role he liaised with EU Member States and the Commission on bioeconomy policy-related issues, was responsible for the international Biorefinery competition to expedite biorefinery investments into Finland, and managed the Finnish Government’s key projects on Bioeconomy, Circular economy and Cleantech.

Mr. Manninen held numerous research, science and management positions at VTT between 1999-2014. He has an MSc in Energy Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology, and a PhD in Process Integration from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
