Meet Karl Tragl

Dr. Tragl studied physics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed his Ph. D. at the German Aerospace Center in Oberpfaffenhofen subsequently. He started his professional career in 1991 as a Management Consultant with Siemens where he was responsible for a variety of strategy, restructuring, growth and innovation projects at Siemens Management Consulting. With his next step, he became responsible for the global frequency converters business of Siemens, based in Congleton/UK. After a couple of years, he moved on to Bosch Rexroth AG, a mechanical engineering company, where Dr. Tragl worked for 16 years, finally having the overall responsibility of the company as Chief Executive Officer. He then was working as one of the Group Presidents of Alcoa, headquartered in New York. After Alcoa separated into two independent stock market companies, Dr. Tragl continued working at Arconic being responsible for Engineered Products and Solutions. This comprised high value add products made of aluminum, nickel or titanium alloys for the Aviation, Defence and Automotive industry. Since May 2018, Dr. Tragl is acting as CEO of the Diehl Group based in Nuremberg/Germany. Diehl is a family-run technology company with a close to 120-year-old tradition. Diehl’s broad product range comprises a variety of business fields in Metals, Controls, Defence, Aviation and Metering ́ industries. Around 17,500 employees at 80 sites worldwide develop, manufacture and sell products generating an annual group revenue of 3.6 billion €. Dr. Tragl combines broad entrepreneurial experience in various industry sectors with an international knowledge of state-of-the-art production systems and innovative methods in Industry 4.0, Automation and 3D printing technologies. He is married and has five children in the age of 13 to 26 years.
